Occupy Movement

The general perception is that Occupy is over.

Nothing could be further from the truth. We are now at DAY 115 - and counting.

The System is critically broken - you can help replace it with one that represents the People's interests - rather than the interests of the few, represented now by the dieing Republic and her allies in the "New World Order". The American Empire - with it's endless global war, and it's rapacious 'always on' dog eat dog economy that exports good jobs to the most undemocratic and lowest paying anti-union dictatorship it can find - is a thing of the past - a dinosaur that wants to bury us all with it as is fades from relevancy.

The Occupy Movement is digging in, re-organizing and developing deep roots in every community. This spring may be an occupation of every street corner - every town square of every neighbourhood.

You can read, watch, comment or become active in the Movement via any of the thousands of Occupy City Websites in every Province across this great Country. Just search "Occupy + Your Town" - and begin to Free yourself from the chains of Transnational Corporate dominance over our Country's democratic institutions.

Tour de France Coverage

The past 2 years I covered every stage race of the Tour de France at BikingToronto. "Live Blogging" almost every stage, I also wrote a summary pieces on many stages which included some funny takes on the metrics of team bicycle racing. Also you can re-live the progress of Victoria BC's Ryder Hesjedal who, after rising to, and holding on to 3rd place for several stages, finished the 2010 Tour de France in 7th place over all. Blog Header is a slice of Margot Spindelman's Isostasy 3 (pictured above), an oil on canvas - 54.25 " x 42.50" - from her 2006 collection "The Pre-trembling of a house that falls" - edited by Michael Holloway - with permission.

Margot Spindelman's most recent collection is "Unnamed Calamity" - which she describes:
"These are meditations on the end of empire. Fragments of architecture (from photographs I take of New York City’s infrastructure) are projected then drawn onto the paper, either remaining throughout as I continue working or eventually erased by turpentine, creating residual layers. As the image is built up the solidity of these structures is undermined, sometimes leaving only suggestions of impact, presence or absence. These new pieces are very small— each rectangle that contains the image is 1-15/16" x 3-1/8". This size is intended to help render an image of calamity that is all the more intense because it is so minutely concentrated. The materials are spare— ballpoint pen drawings on gessoed paper, and turpentine washes. The remnants of stretching and cutting the paper— brown tape, ruled lines, amplify the sense of the shards of a fading society. These pieces are the newest iteration of my interest in the poetic possibilities that landscape and abstraction offer, but now, size and material work to confine the action and create a distance evocative of loss."
